Automobile Insurance Premium Comparison

Automobile premiums vary based on many factors, which can include the vehicle type, age, cost new, and annual miles driven.  The automobile premium is also based on the driver’s record, age, sex, credit rating, home ownership, and additional coverages selected. Additional factors considered in the premium rating include marital status, how the car is used and longevity with the company. The number of automobiles in an area, traffic congestion, and the average number of automobile accidents in a particular location play an important role in premium determinations.  Premiums in metropolitan areas tend to be higher for these reasons. The following may help lower your automobile insurance premiums: driving safely, comparing companies’ premiums, higher physical damage deductibles, insuring all vehicles under one policy, buying moderately priced vehicles, package polices, and discounts.  All licensed drivers who reside in the household need to be listed on the policy.  Please check with your insurance company regarding its requirements.

DISCLAIMER:

DISB requires insurance companies to provide a premium comparison survey that shows the premiums charged for representative types of consumers with sample coverage situations, by varying deductible levels for each private passenger automobile.  Private passenger automobile insurance includes cars, pickup trucks and other vehicles that are required to carry liability insurance and are used predominately for personal rather than business use.

Each insurance company is required to provide its premiums for a representative sample of varying types of risks and coverages within the District of Columbia.   The specific characteristics of each consumer and his or her automobile(s), driving record, etc. could result in a myriad of potential combinations of factors; therefore, it is impossible to provide an exact comparison for each possible situation. We have provided examples of several different factors and suggest for comparison purposes that you select the factors that most closely match your situation.

The sample rate is not intended to provide a specific quote to you on a specific policy with a specific insurer. The sample rates only enable consumers to compare the premiums charged by the various companies for similar examples.

Please note: That for the purposes of calculating these sample rates, no discounts apply other than those for clean driving/claim record and a standard or “good” insurance score. Also, there is no multi-policy discount (for having multiple cars insured) nor multi-line discount (for insuring both auto and home).
