District of Columbia to Introduce New Taxicab Insurance Rules at Informational Meeting

(Washington, DC) The District of Columbia Department of Insurance, Securities & Banking (DISB) and the DC Taxicab Commission (DCTC) will host a taxicab informational meeting on December 19 to introduce new taxicab insurance rules that will provide better coverage for DC taxicab drivers.

 

Starting 2006, DISB will require insurance companies to offer additional optional insurance coverage and provide deposit and installment payment options. The department will also prohibit service fees in connection with the collection of insurance premiums from taxicab drivers. Other topics to be discussed at the event include the proposed uninsured motorist coverage bill (B16-0044) and the proposed taxicab fare increases.
