DISB Relocates Banking Bureau and Captive Insurance Division

(Washington, DC) Commissioner Lawrence H. Mirel of the District of Columbia Department of Insurance, Securities and Banking (DISB) announced today that effective Monday, June 28, 2004, the staff of the Banking Bureau will move to 810 First Street, NE, Suite 700, Washington, DC 20002. The DC Charter School Credit Enhancement Program, which was previously part of the Banking Bureau, will remain at 1400 L Street.
 
On the same date, the Captive Insurance Division will move to 1400 L Street, NW, Suite 400, Washington, DC 20005.
 
The Banking Bureau is responsible for regulating DC-chartered banks, mortgage lenders, mortgage brokers, and other financial institutions operating in the District. The general telephone number for the Banking Bureau is (202) 727-8000. The Captive Insurance Division is responsible for regulating captive insurance companies operating in the District. The general telephone number for the Captive Insurance Division is (202) 727-1563. Mirel stated, "The relocation of employees is being done to consolidate most of the Department’s staff at one location, which will improve the delivery of services to our customers.” The functions of the former DC Department of Insurance and Securities Regulation (DISR) and the former DC Department of Banking and Financial Institutions (DBFI) were consolidated in February 2004 to create the DISB.
